father・mother・sister など家族に関する5級レベルの基本語彙を学びます。身近な人を英語で紹介できるようになり、自己紹介や簡単な会話で役立つ表現が身につきます。
コア意味と使い方
brother は「兄」も「弟」も表し、区別したいときは older brother / younger brother と言います。
sister も同じです。
family は集団を1つと見て単数扱い（My family is big.）。
自分の家族には my father / my mother と my を付けます。
使い方 —家族を紹介する形
This is my mother.（人を紹介）/ I have two brothers.（人数）/ How many people are there in your family? — Four.（家族の人数）が定番のやり取りです。
人数をたずねるとき people は複数形で使います。
つまずきやすい所
○ brother は兄・弟の両方（older / younger で区別）
✗ brother が「兄」だけだと思う
日本語と1対1で対応しない語。設問で年上・年下が問われる。
○ My family is big.
✗ My family are big.
family は集団を1つと見て単数扱い。
○ She is my friend. / a friend of mine.
✗ She is my a friend.
my と a は同時に使えない。
brother が兄弟両方を指すこと、family が単数扱いであること。この2点が家族の語の要点です。
