wishを使った仮定法

wish ＋ 過去形 / 過去完了 / would、if only、would rather ＋ S ＋ 過去形。願望と後悔の強さを選びます。
3形と、感情の強さ
wish ＋ 過去形（現在の事実に反する願望）／wish ＋ 過去完了（過去への後悔）／wish ＋ would（他者の行動や状況の変化への苛立ち）。
if only は wish より感情が強い言い方で、しばしば独立文で使われます（If only I had listened!）。
would rather ＋ S ＋ 過去形 は「（人に）〜してほしい」で、現在・未来の希望です。
would rather の2つの形を混同しない
would rather ＋ 原形は自分がしたいこと（I would rather stay home.）。
would rather ＋ S ＋ 過去形は他人にしてほしいこと（I would rather you didn't call so late.）で、現在・未来のことでも過去形を使います。
過去のことなら would rather ＋ S ＋ had pp。
つまずきやすい所
○ I would rather you didn't mention it.
✗ I would rather you don't mention it.
節を続けるなら仮定法過去。
○ I wish it would stop raining.
✗ I wish it will stop raining.
wish の後に will は使わない。
○ If only I had listened …
✗ If only I listened to the warnings.（過去の後悔で）
過去は2段ずらす。
3形と感情の強さ、would rather の2形。願望表現はこの整理で迷いません。
