Actually free. Signing up gives you all eight grades, 11,859 questions with their explanations, the video lessons, the glossary and the mock exams. No card at any point.

What does the listening involve?
1,250 questions. You hear a conversation or a short talk, answer, then read the script, the translation and the key expressions. The audio uses your device's own speech function, so there is nothing to download.
How close to the real paper are the mocks?
Pick a grade and you sit the real structure under the real clock. Grade 5, for instance, is 55 questions in 50 minutes. Afterwards your score and weak points are broken down automatically and feed into review.
Is the app itself in English?
No, and deliberately so. The questions are in English, but every explanation is in Japanese, as is the whole interface. This page is the only part of the service in English.
