Book Review: "The House on Quiet Street" (★★★★★) Reviewed by Lena M. I do not usually read mystery novels, but a friend lent me "The House on Quiet Street" and told me I would not be able to put it down. She was right. I finished all 320 pages in a single weekend. The Story The novel follows Emma, a young woman who moves into an old house in a small town. Soon she notices strange things: doors that open by themselves, and the sound of someone walking upstairs when she is alone. Emma decides to find out the truth about the house's past. I will not spoil the ending, but I can promise it is not what you expect. What I Loved The best part of this book is the writing. The author describes the old house so well that I felt cold just reading about it. Each chapter ends with a small surprise, which made it very hard to stop reading. I also liked that the main character, Emma, is clever and brave, but not perfect. She makes mistakes, just like a real person. A Small Problem If I have one complaint, it is that there are too many characters at the beginning. For the first 50 pages, I had trouble remembering who was who. However, once the story got going, this problem disappeared. Who Should Read It? I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery, especially readers who like to be a little scared but not too much. It is also a great choice for people who, like me, do not usually read this kind of story. Give it a try — you may discover a new favorite. Just don't start reading it late at night, unless you are ready to stay up until you finish!
