The Show Must Go On This year, the Maple High Drama Club decided to perform "The Little Prince," a famous story loved around the world. For two months, twenty students practiced almost every day after school. Few of them imagined how many problems they would face before opening night. Problems Behind the Scenes The first problem was the costumes. The club had very little money, so instead of buying costumes, the students made them by hand from old clothes and cloth donated by parents. The second problem was bigger. Just one week before the show, the student playing the main character, the Little Prince, caught a bad cold and lost his voice completely. A Brave Decision With no time to lose, a quiet first-year student named Rin offered to take the role. She had memorized every line while helping backstage, but she had never acted in front of an audience. "I was terrified," she said later, "but I did not want all our hard work to be wasted." The Performance On the night of the show, the hall was full. At first, Rin's hands were shaking. But as the story went on, she forgot her fear and became the Little Prince. When the play ended, the audience stood up and clapped for a full two minutes. Several people were wiping away tears.
