too(〜すぎる)と enough(十分に)の使い方を4級レベルで学びます。語順や to不定詞との組み合わせを理解し、程度を表す自然な文が作れるようになります。
ルール —too と enough の位置
too ＋ 形容詞は「〜すぎる（困った状態）」、形容詞 ＋ enough は「十分〜」。
too の後ろは形容詞、enough は形容詞の後ろ（名詞の前）に置きます。
so ... that は「とても〜なので…」という結果を表します。
使い方 —too ... to と so ... that の書き換え
It is too hot to play outside. = It is so hot that we cannot play outside. のように書き換えられます。
too ... to V は否定の意味を含むので not を付けません。
つまずきやすい所
○ He is old enough to drive.
✗ He is enough old to drive.
enough は形容詞の後ろ。
○ This box is too heavy to carry.
✗ This box is too heavy to not carry.
too ... to は既に否定の意味。
○ I was so tired that I went to bed early.
✗ I was so tired to go to bed early.
so の相方は that 節。
enough の位置と too ... to の否定性。書き換えもセットで覚えます。
