無冠詞の慣用句 / the ＋ 形容詞 / the の付く固有名詞 / the ＋ 単数の総称 / such の語順。冠詞は「何を指しているか」の宣言です。
冠詞が落ちる条件と、戻る条件
go to school / be in hospital / at sea のような句では、施設を機能・状態として捉えているため冠詞が落ちます。
物理的な建物そのものを指すときは the が戻ります（go to the school to fix the roof）。
the ＋ 形容詞（the poor / the unemployed）は「その属性の人々」で複数扱い。
the ＋ 可算単数（The smartphone has …）は学術的・代表的な総称です。
such と so の語順が試される
such は冠詞の前（such a difficult problem）、so は形容詞の前で冠詞は形容詞の後（so difficult a problem）。
同じ内容を2通りで言えますが語順が逆になります。
1級ではこの入れ替えが空所補充で問われます。
the ＋ 形容詞 の動詞一致（are）も定番です。
つまずきやすい所
○ The poor are often ignored.
✗ The poor is often ignored.
the ＋ 形容詞は複数扱い。
○ so difficult a problem / such a difficult problem
✗ so a difficult problem
so は形容詞の前、such は冠詞の前。
○ go to school
✗ go to the school（通学の意味で）
機能を指すときは無冠詞。
冠詞は「機能か実体か」「個か種か」の宣言です。such / so の語順も併せて固定します。
