前置詞（応用）

despite / in spite of / due to / owing to / because of など、原因・譲歩を表す前置詞句です。後ろが名詞である点が共通です。
ルール —前置詞の後ろは名詞（節は不可）
despite / in spite of（〜にもかかわらず）、due to / owing to / because of（〜が原因で）はすべて前置詞句なので、後ろには名詞・動名詞が来ます。
節を続けたいときは接続詞（although / because）を使います。
使い方 —the fact that で節を名詞化する
despite の後ろに節を置きたいときは despite the fact that 〜 とします。
in spite of は of を落とせません（× in spite the rain）。
during（〜の間に）↔ while（〜する間に）も節か名詞かで使い分けます。
つまずきやすい所
○ Despite the rain, … / Although it was raining, …
✗ Despite it was raining, …
despite の後ろは名詞。
○ in spite of the rain
✗ in spite the rain
of を落とせない。
○ while I was in Tokyo
✗ during I was in Tokyo
節なら while。
後ろが名詞か節かで前置詞と接続詞を選ぶ。この一点で大半が解けます。
