運命の判決 ― 道徳的運と責任の限界

同じ意志、違う判決
同程度に無謀な二人の運転者 ━ 一方は無事に帰宅し、他方は飛び出した子どもをはねる。
過失の程度は変わらないのに後者ははるかに厳しく裁かれ、訴追もされます。
The outcome, however fortuitous, seems to reach back and recolour the act itself.（結果はどれほど偶然でも、行為そのものを遡って染め直すように見える）。
これが moral luck です。
純化すると行為者が消える
But this manoeuvre, pressed to its conclusion, dissolves the very self it sought to vindicate（この操作は徹底すると、擁護しようとした自我そのものを溶かす）。
If we subtract all that we did not choose, we subtract the agent altogether.（選ばなかったものをすべて差し引けば、行為者ごと差し引かれる）。
だから結論は責任の放棄ではなく より謙虚に持つこと ━ the line between the wicked and the merely unlucky is fainter … than our self-righteous verdicts presume。
