the reason why + S + V ("the reason why he came")
the reason for + 名詞/-ing ("the reason for being late")
the reason (that) + S + V (関係代名詞 that も可、why はその省略形)

reason vs cause vs purpose の違い
reason=理由・説明 (人の動機)
cause=原因 (物理的な引き金)
purpose=目的 (意図したゴール)。
reasonable の2つの意味
①合理的な ("a reasonable argument")
②妥当な値段 ("reasonably priced"=手頃な値段で)。"for some reason" = なぜか (3級超頻出フレーズ)。
