準2級で重要な強調構文(分裂文)を学びます。It is ... that や What ... is の型を使って文の特定部分を強調する方法を習得し、表現に幅とメリハリを加えられます。
ルール —強調したい語を It is と that の間に置く
Tom broke the window yesterday. の各要素を強調できます: It was Tom that broke the window.（人）/ It was the window that Tom broke.（物）/ It was yesterday that Tom broke the window.（時）。
強調する語が人なら that の代わりに who も使えます。
使い方 —It is と that を外してみる
強調構文なら It is と that を取り除いても元の文が成立します（It was Tom that called → Tom called）。
形式主語の文（It is true that he left.）は It と that を外すと文になりません。
この操作が最も確実な見分け方です。
つまずきやすい所
○ 「窓を割ったのはトムだ」
✗ It was Tom that broke the window. を「トムは窓を割ったことだ」と訳す
強調構文は「〜なのは…だ」と訳す。
○ 動詞は強調構文では強調できない（do を使う）
✗ 動詞を It is ... that の間に置く
動詞の強調は He did break it. のように do / does / did を使う。
○ 形式主語（It と that を外すと文にならない）
✗ It is true that を強調構文と読む
外して文が成立するかで見分ける。
「〜なのは…だ」の形。It と that を外して文が残るかで形式主語と見分けます。
