人の発言を伝える形です。時制の後退、say と tell の区別、疑問文と命令文の伝え方をまとめます。
ルール —報告動詞が過去なら1時制後退
He said, "I am tired." → He said that he was tired. のように、報告動詞が過去形なら that 節の動詞を1つ過去へずらします（will → would、is → was）。
代名詞と時の副詞も話し手の視点に合わせて変えます。
使い方 —疑問文でも語順は平叙文に戻す
間接話法の疑問文では疑問符が消え、do / does / did を使わず、語順も〈疑問詞 ＋ 主語 ＋ 動詞〉に戻します（× She asked me where did I live）。
say は相手を取らず、tell は tell 人 と相手が必要、という区別も頻出です。
つまずきやすい所
○ She asked me where I lived.
✗ She asked me where did I live.
間接話法では平叙文の語順に戻し do / did は使わない。
○ He told me that he was tired. / He said that he was tired.
✗ He said me that he was tired.
say は相手を取らない、tell は相手が必要。
○ … told me to wash the dishes.
✗ My mother told me wash the dishes.
命令の伝達は to ＋ 原形。
時制の後退・say と tell・疑問文の語順。この3点が間接話法の設問の中心です。
