位置や方向を表す3級レベルの語彙を学びます。前後左右や道順を示す表現を整理し、道案内や物の位置を説明する場面で役立つ実用的な語彙力が身につきます。
コア意味と使い方
above は「（接せずに）〜より上に」、below は「〜より下に」。
真上・真下で接している場合は on / under を使います。
beside は「〜のそばに」（= next to）、behind は「〜の後ろに」、through は「〜を通り抜けて」で、中を貫くイメージです。
使い分け —through / across / along
through は「内部を通る」（through the tunnel）、across は「表面を横切る」（across the street）、along は「〜に沿って」（along the river）です。
図で覚えると混同しません。
つまずきやすい所
○ The book is on the desk.
✗ The book is above the desk.（机の上に置いてある意味で）
接しているなら on。above は離れて上方。
○ We walked through the tunnel.
✗ We walked across the tunnel.
トンネルは内部を通るので through。
○ He sat beside me.
✗ He sat besides me.
beside=そばに / besides=〜に加えて。意味が違う。
「接しているか」「内部を通るか」で選べば位置の前置詞は迷いません。
