will・be going to・現在進行形・現在形による未来の言い方を、即決/計画/予定などのニュアンス別に整理します。準1級で問われる微妙な使い分けが明確になり、自然な英語が書けるようになります。
格式と「近さ」で並べる
be to + 原形は公式の予定・取り決めを表し、ニュースや規則で使われます(The prime minister is to deliver a speech.)。
be about to は「今すぐ」の差し迫った未来。
be on the verge of + 名詞 / V-ing は「〜の瀬戸際」で崩壊・破綻など重い事態に、be on the point of は「まさにその一点」で瞬間性を強調します。
使い方 —If we are to … は「目的の前提」を作る
If S be to V は「〜を達成するつもりなら」という前提を置き、主節に必要な行動を続けます(If we are to meet the deadline, we must start now.)。
be to は受動と結ぶと規則・禁止になります(No one is to leave the room.)。
on the verge / on the point の後ろは名詞か動名詞で、to 不定詞は取りません。
つまずきやすい所

of + 名詞・動名詞で固定。

条件節で「〜するつもりなら」は be to。
○ 公式・取り決めの含みがある
✗ be to を単なる予定の will と同じに使う
ニュース・規則のレジスター。
未来表現はレジスターと近さの2軸で選びます。of の後ろが名詞・動名詞である点も外さないことです。
