擁護論の自己矛盾を突く
Yet this defence concedes more than it admits. If animal models were truly reliable predictors of human outcomes, the high rate at which promising compounds fail in human trials would be inexplicable.（動物モデルが本当に信頼できる予測子なら、有望な化合物が人の試験で高率に失敗することは説明できない）。
この一文が論の要で、擁護論の前提を内側から崩します。
立証責任をどちらが負うか
3Rs の枠組みは it insists that the burden of justification falls on those who would cause harm, not on those who question it.（立証責任は害を加える側にあり、疑問を呈する側にはない）と述べます。
結論は The real measure of a society … is not whether it uses animals at all, but how seriously it interrogates each decision to do so.（使うか否かではなく、各判断をどれだけ真剣に問い直すか）です。
